Personally, I wouldn't have allowed her in as she didn't conform to the dress code. So what if you're wearing designer? It's formal attire only, not loungewear. Wear a basic, covers everything dress or wear a tuxedo. I have seen plenty of women wear tuxes and suits to formal events like this and look great, like Amy Poehler, for example or Keanu's mother.
